The JS53 is the final evolution of the CN specification from the French manufacturer Ligier. This car features a full carbon fibre monocoque (older versions are aluminium) and crash box. Powered by the Honda K20 2.0 litre type R engine the car weighs 565kg and the engine produces 265bhp. As with all current specification cars the JS53 comes with paddle shift via the Sadev 6 speed gearbox. The introduction of this feature means it is impossible to over rev the engine on down changes and no more missed gears. The engine life is 60 hours between refreshes and the current motor has 13 hours use.
A comprehensive data logger is also fitted onto the car so performance can be analysed from the driver and vehicle. The usual wheel speed, steering input, brake pressure and even the damper trace can be inspected. The dash board on the steering wheel gives all the driver information including lap times, fuel usage temperatures & pressures.
The Ligier can be set up individually for each circuit to maximise its performance and the car comes with instructions for each South African circuit it has raced at.
We have owned the car for two seasons and imported it from the French IDEC Sport team (the current LMP2 European Champions) and its history has been carefully recorded. The car comes with many spare parts and supply of new is easily attained from Ligier themselves in Magny Cours, France (they all speak English and are very supportive of the Ligier’s here in South Africa). We have always lifed the major parts and this season have replaced the drive shafts, fuel pumps, two brake callipers, steering rack and refreshed the engine. In short, the car has been meticulously looked after and is prepared to a very high standard by the Team at RicoBarlowRacing.
