Over the years, Rico has competed in various motorsport categories, including Single Seaters with a Swift Formula GTI, Formula Supercars in the Owen Ashley-designed one-make Formula, and in Sports and GT races with a Hawkins Special V8.
More than just colleagues, the RBR team is a close-knit group of friends, bringing together years of expertise in racing and vehicle modifications and repair.
Rico Barlow, as Team Principal, overseeing logistics, finance and business management also manages the entire pit crew at events and in-workshop he manages the wiring and electronics departments. Rico is also the lead on our VW Air-cooled Restoration Division.
The technical team is headed-up by Veteran mechanic, Deon Beier, alongside him with a wealth of racing knowledge, is racing legend Jesse Huggett. Clinton Talbot is chief race mechanic and is ably supported by mechanics assistant, Eugene Bosman and workshop assistants Ronny Rudolph and Valentine Mashonya. Our custom panel shop is headed up by Veteran Spray painter, Arno Cloete. Daily admin and workshop documentation is handled by Megan van der Merwe, who also oversees building cleaner, Alice Kaunga. Financial Manager, Riana Naude, rounds out the crew at TeamRBR.
Based in Killarney Gardens, our 1000m2 factory is close to the Killarney International Raceway where we have full access to a multitude of our Suppliers and partners and full access to the race-track and facilities.
Our Chief Achievement
Our primary focus is running the Adjust4Sleep Racing team for world-renowned Gentleman Racer, Nick Adcock. We take great pride in maintaining the only Nova NP02 race car on the African continent, and our partnership with Nick has seen his career soar & reach new heights. From Formula Supercars to National GTC2 with a VW Golf 6 GTI, through the Ligier CN-Type 49 and 53 Evo2 and eventually to the 2023 Nova Proto NP02, we’ve achieved significant & great success. While competing in the South African Endurance Series, we’ve set multiple track records and secured numerous wins with the NP02.
Our Passion for Air-Cooled VW Beetles
Beyond racing, our team shares a mutual passion for air-cooled VW Beetles, Baja Bugs, and Buggies. We handle everything from repairs and maintenance to full nut & bolt vehicle restorations, rebuilds, resprays and restomods. Our in-house fabrication capabilities are complemented by a vast network of top tier engineers, draughtsmen, and designers specializing in metalwork, fiberglass, and carbon-fibre fabrication.
Additional Services
We provide vehicle trailer & diesel generator rentals. Our current fleet includes a 60 kVa and 20 kVa diesel 3-phase power generators, which are available for events or as a general backup power source for your home or business. We also supply and service diesel generator sets up to 150 kVa. Our trailer compliment includes winched and standard single and double axle car trailers.
Additionally, our race-car transporter, which is a state-of-the-art unit, can carry variations of vehicles and equipment. It also features a full lounge facility, which can be used by drivers for relaxation and data review. This transporter is available for specialized rental for events and car transportation.
